Latin America and Caribbean

In 2014, UNDP’s Innovation Facility supported six Country Ofce initiatives in Latin America and the Caribbean. The majority of these initiatives, as well as the 27 proposals received for 2014 funding, are focused around citizen engagement, citizen security, energy efficiency and entrepreneurship. The recipient Country Offices received support and buy-in from national and local governments for these projects; some ongoing and others just launched via the Innovation Facility. All of these initiatives have employed human-centred design as a main pillar in their approach, bringing together citizens, local businesses and municipalities to work jointly to codefine the issues at hand, co-design solutions and implement and test these flexible prototypes together. Some of the initiatives have also held hackathons with local youth developers to create mobile apps to facilitate citizen engagement and youth entrepreneurship.
